Pacific Northwest Bodybuilders
About
this Gallery
Kim Nix, Bellingham WA
Kim Nix is one of Washington State's major heavyweight
competitors. He is a former All-American shotputter, and weighed in at
245 lbs. (6'2") when most of these pictures were taken at the 1993 Pacific
Coast Championships in Portland OR, in which he placed 2nd in the Heavyweight
division as he also had the weekend before at the 1993 Emerald Cup in Seattle.
Aaron Maddron, Medford OR
Aaron is one of the emerging faces in American bodybuilding.
An exciting and dynamic poser with amazing structure and a powerful stage
presence, Aaron won the Heavyweight and Overall titles at the 1995 Emerald
Cup in Seattle and now competes on the national stage. These pictures were
taken at the 1993 Oregon State Championship in Portland, at which Aaron
also won the Heavyweight and Overall titles.
Andre Scott, Portland OR
I've never met this guy, but on the two occasions
I've had the privilege of seeing him do his thing on-stage I was completely
floored by the excitement he packs into his routine - and by his stunningly
detailed mass. Unfortunately the lab spoiled most of the shots on the roll
featuring him - the dazzling spreadeagle at the top of this page is one
of these surviving frames, taken during the lightweight posedown at the
1993 Emerald Cup, and I've repeated it here so you can have another good
look at it.
Darren Kupfer, Seattle WA
One of the better-known lightheavyweights in the Pacific
Northwest, and also one of the more symmetrical. These pictures were taken
at the 1993 Emerald Cup.
Dave Hughes, Portland OR
Another of the many big Pacific Northwest heavyweights,
Dave is from Portland OR but that's about all I know about him - except
that he's an commanding figure on stage and has a way with posing, and
lately he's been getting exposure in the big mags. These pictures are from
the 1993 Pacific Coast Championships in Portland. Until recently
I had his surname wrong, which (considering he's a big heavyweight)
I hope he wasn't too miffed about........
Erin Allen
Erin was in the heavyweights at the 1992 Emerald
Cup, and for now this is the only pic I have of him scanned. Apparently
he's not competing anymore, but by the looks of it in this picture he was
anything but a lost cause.......
Mixed Pairs
For some reason, the art of Mixed Pairs competition
is alive and well in the Pacific Northwest. Some of the performances
I've seen were striking in their originality and the choice of music
The Mixed Pairs competitions are well-entered, and form some of the most
interesting parts of the shows I've been to in the region. Please
contact me via e-mail with any
identification of the couples depicted above (I do know that the
couple on the upper right are or were the owners of the big Gold's Gym
in downtown NW Portland, but I don't know their names).
Junior Champion, 1993 Northwest NPCs
I never did catch this kid's name - he's only 19 in
the pictures shown and I haven't been down there for any shows since.
One of the best physiques in the Northwest, and if he's still competing
I'm sure he's doing very well.
Unknown - Heavyweight Champion, 1993 Pacific Coast Championships
Lilli Ewing, Tukwila WA
Anyone familiar with my site knows that female bodybuilders are few
and far between here - Sharon Bruneau is
the only other woman who appears here, other than the women featured in
the Mixed Pairs section above and a few scattered through the Physique
Art section. But Lilli faithfully sends me notes from the Seattle
area, and has her own booming wrestling
gateway website down there, so I've decided to include her here.
The above picture is from her overall win at the 1993 Pacific Coast Championships
in Portland; the sword she's holding was one of the prizes associated with
the title (they're a classy bunch, those Portlanders!). I have some
more pics of Lilli to be added once I dig them up and scan them........
Cam - Lighweight
This is another of those situations where I can't
remember the individual's name but was very impressed by them. This
lightweight - whose first name I remember as Cameron or Campbell - regularly
put on some of the most spectacular posing exhibitions at most of the shows
I attended in the Puget Sound-Portland area. Despite being a novice,
and only a lightweight, he put into posing a sense of style and energy
that working pros would do well to emulate. I have more pictures
of him somewhere, and they will be added here shortly.
Miscellaneous Pacific Northwest Athletes
A miscellany of various competitors from around Washington
and Oregon who I'm going to have to do some digging to identify.
Please e-mail me if you can identify
any of the individuals pictured.
